Why fixed-fee photography pricing matters in Kyoto

Most photography quotes in Japan come with a base fee and a list of conditions. Extra editing, additional files, travel beyond a certain radius, rush delivery. By the time the invoice arrives, the number can be 30 to 40 percent higher than the figure the client first saw. At Spruce Crestline we have operated on a fixed-fee model since 2017, and the difference it makes to the working relationship is significant.

Why clients come back

01

Fixed-fee pricing, always

Every package is priced before the shoot. No add-ons for editing, no surprise invoices for extra time. You see the number, you agree to it, that is the number.

02

Natural light, first

We shoot in available light wherever possible. Our Higashiyama studio has north-facing skylights that give a clean, even glow without the harshness of flash.

03

Same-day proof gallery

Within 24 hours of your session you receive a private online gallery of selects. Final edited files follow within seven business days.

Meet the maker

Founder, Established since 2017

Kenji Murakami

Kenji Murakami trained in documentary photography at Osaka University of Arts, graduating in 2007. He spent the following eight years as a staff photographer at Tanaka Creative Group in Osaka, shooting commercial campaigns for food, hospitality, and retail clients across the Kansai region. A growing frustration with opaque billing practices led him to open Spruce Crestline in Kyoto's Higashiyama district in 2017. He shoots with a Fujifilm GFX system for studio work and a Leica M11 for outdoor and documentary sessions. On weekends he tends a small vegetable plot in Fushimi and reads more crime fiction than is probably healthy.

FAQ

Common questions

Q01

Is the price really fixed? What if the session runs over time?

Yes, genuinely fixed. If a portrait session runs 20 minutes longer because we are getting great shots, you do not pay more. The fee covers the session, the editing, and the file delivery. The only thing not included is travel costs if you ask us to come to a location more than 30 km from the studio.

Q02

What happens if the weather is bad on my outdoor shoot day?

We allow one free reschedule per booking, no questions asked. For summer outdoor sessions especially, we keep a weather eye on the forecast from about five days out and will flag any concerns early so you have time to decide.

Q03

How many photos do I actually receive?

Portrait sessions include up to 30 edited digital files. Wedding packages include a minimum of 400 edited images. Commercial and product sessions are scoped per brief, but we always agree the deliverable count before the shoot date.
